Sourced figures: prices in the table carry their source and date. Fees and fares change, and they are third-party figures, not our offers.

Flights to Manado land at Sam Ratulangi International Airport (MDC), the gateway for Bunaken. Route lists show Singapore on Scoot, plus domestic links with Jakarta, Denpasar, Makassar and Surabaya. Routes change, so confirm them with the airlines. Then match your landing time to your boat, because the afternoon public boat and resort transfers run on their own clock.
Where do flights to Manado land?
Everything arrives at one airport. Wikipedia places Sam Ratulangi International Airport, code MDC, 13 km north-east of Manado. The sources on this page mention no airstrip on Bunaken, so a trip to the island starts with a flight to Manado, then a road leg and a boat. This page takes you as far as the boat. The crossing itself is covered in Manado to Bunaken: boats and harbours compared.
Which routes are listed?
Two kinds of source mention routes. Wikipedia keeps a list by airline, and Siladen Resort tells its guests how they usually arrive. Neither is a timetable.
| To or from Manado | Airlines listed by Wikipedia | What else is said |
|---|---|---|
| Singapore | Scoot | Siladen Resort says guests reach Manado via Singapore with Scoot |
| Jakarta | Batik Air, Citilink, Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air | Siladen Resort mentions daily flights from Jakarta |
| Denpasar (Bali) | Lion Air | Siladen Resort mentions daily flights from Bali |
| Makassar | Lion Air | Other Lion Air routes are also listed |
| Surabaya | Lion Air | Listed in the same entry |
Airline line-ups at regional airports can change within a season, and a listing does not tell you how many days a week a route runs. Before you build a trip around any line in that table, search the route on the airline's own site for your exact dates, and check whether the flight is nonstop or has a connection. Wikipedia's airport page is a good place to find which airlines to look at, and a poor place to confirm that a flight exists. We do not quote flight durations or fares because they shift too often to be reliable here. Your booking screen will show the current figure.
For travellers coming from outside Indonesia, the sources describe two broad ways in. One is the Singapore route with Scoot. The other is to enter Indonesia elsewhere and connect from Jakarta or Bali. Which works better depends on your home airport and on how much you value a single ticket, because a missed connection on separate tickets is your own problem to solve.
Can you get a visa on arrival?
For eligible nationalities, yes, though two different sources support different parts of that answer. Indonesia's immigration directorate sets the terms: the Visa on Arrival lasts up to 30 days and can be extended once, to 60 days in total, and the page requires a passport valid at least 6 months. The fee it publishes appears in the price table on this page.
The statement that this visa can be had at Manado itself comes from an operator. Siladen Resort says Visa on Arrival is available at Manado airport for eligible countries, and it recommends applying for the e-VoA in advance. Eligibility depends on nationality, so check your own country on the immigration directorate's page close to your travel date. Entry rules are for the authorities to decide, and nothing here is legal advice.
Three checks are worth making before you leave home:
- Your passport's expiry date against the six-month requirement.
- Your nationality on the current eligibility list.
- Whether your total stay, including any days elsewhere in Indonesia, fits the visa's length.
How do you get from the airport into Manado?
By road, and the choice is mainly taxi or app. Wikivoyage says a taxi from the airport to central Manado takes about 30 minutes, with bargaining possible on the fare. Sulawesi.com, a publisher with tours of its own to sell, says about forty minutes to the fish-market jetty, and that Grab and Gojek both operate in Manado. The taxi figure in the price table on this page is undated, so treat it as a starting point for a conversation.
If you have booked a resort, you may not need to arrange any of this. Wikivoyage says most resorts arrange airport transfers for guests. Siladen Resort, for example, says the transfer from the airport to its resort takes about 90 minutes, depending on weather and tide. Send the resort your flight number when you book, then confirm again a few days before you land if your flight has moved.
How do arrival times affect the boat?
This is where a good flight can still produce a bad first day. Each way across has its own rhythm, and the reports do not line up neatly.
- Public boat out. Reports place it in the afternoon and often delayed, and our Manado to Bunaken comparison sets out the times and jetties.
- Resort transfers. Sulawesi.com describes a morning pickup and a mid-afternoon return. Your own resort may run differently, so ask.
- Charters. The ministry site says they leave in the morning and return in late afternoon, usually reserved for agent or hotel packages.
| When you land | What that tends to mean | Question to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Early morning | The easiest case; time for a morning transfer or a wait for the afternoon boat | Will the resort meet this flight, or do I wait? |
| Around midday | Tight for an afternoon public boat once baggage, visa and the road are counted | Which harbour is it this week, and what if I miss it? |
| Late afternoon or evening | Expect a night in Manado and a crossing the next day | Can my first night be on the mainland? |
| On a Sunday | Wikivoyage reports no Sunday public boat | Is a private or resort boat running instead? |
If a late landing means a night on the mainland, compare it with the island options in our guide to where to stay.
How much buffer should you leave on the way home?
More than the timetables imply, especially in the wet months. Sulawesi.com singles out the November to March monsoon as the time the afternoon public boat is most likely to be cancelled or late. The return public boat runs in the morning, and reports differ on the hour.
The overnight pattern Sulawesi.com outlines has a timing problem of its own, set out in our Manado to Bunaken comparison, so confirm locally what is running before relying on it. For a long-haul connection, the cautious plan is to leave the island at least a day before your flight home. Divers should read the note on flying after diving on our safety page. Our page on how many days to spend builds these travel days into a full trip.

How do I reach the desk?
Once you have flights or likely flights, send the desk your flight numbers, dates and group size on WhatsApp +62 811-3941-4563 or at bd@juaraholding.com. It can answer questions about the onward leg, though it does not sell airline tickets and a message cannot confirm a boat; that takes a written offer. The about page explains its commercial interest.
Send the desk your dates, group size, and dive level. The desk replies in writing.
